Description

Portrait of Giuseppina Negron Prati, née Morosini, (Lugano, February 3, 1825 – Milan, March 16, 1909), countess and daughter of Giovanni Battista Morosini and Emilia Zeltner (see RIdIM item 9861), married to Count Alessandro Negroni Prati in 1851. As most of her family members a Italian patriot and supporter of Italy’s independence. From 1849 her house became one of Milan’s center of anti-Habsburg sentiments, and she ran a salon that was frequented by Giuseppe Verdi, Andrea Verga, and Francesco Hayez among others. She also acted as co-founder of the political newspaper “La Preseveranza”, founded in Milan in 1860. From 1878 her contact with Giuseppe Verdi became very close.
