Portrait of Emilia Morosini Zeltner

Description

Portrait of Emilia Morisini, née Zeltner (Solothurn, Switzerland, 1804 – Vezia near Lugano, 1875), married to Giovanni Battista Morosini (1783-1874) in 1819. She was a member of Milan's high society and a close friend of Giuseppe Verdi (after the success of "Nabucodonosor" at La Scala in Milan) from 1842 to 1848. Morosini was a fervent advocate of the Risorgimento, as were most of the Morosini family members, including her son, Emilio (1830-1849), who not only participated in the Five Days of Milan in 1848 but also joined the Lombard Bersaglieri in Piedmont (he died in 1849 in Rome due to injuries received in a battle).
