Description
Group of musicians with a group of 20 non-performers. One woman (Sophie Elisabeth, Duchess of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel) is playing harpsichord or spinet, two women (Clara Augusta and Maria Elisabeth) are playing tenor viola da gamba, a fourth is playing bass viola da gamba (Sybilla Ursula), one man is playing violone (Rudolf August), one man is playing tenor viola da gamba (Anton Ulrich), and a young man is playing treble viola da gamba (Ferdinand Albrecht). The painting depicts member of the family of August the Younger, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (himself sitting in the middle of the painting): His third wife Elisabeth Sophie and their children Maria Elisabeth and Ferdinand Albrecht, as well as August's children from his second marriage with Dorothea of Anhalt-Zerbst: Rudolf August, Anton Ulrich, Sybilla Ursula and Clara Augusta.
