Description

Based on a drawing by David Allan now owned by the Royal Trust (RCIN 913359), but previously owned by Paul Sandby, this print presents a view of a lively crowd at the starting line of a horse race during Carnival celebrations in Rome. In addition to the speeding horses, people of various ages and social roles are pictured. They are engaged in numerous different activities, including music making and dancing.
