Description
This print contains two images. The upper, larger one shows the proscenium of the opera house, with one singer (or speaker) gesturing with arms upraised on the stage and audience members engaged in various activities, including conversation and applause, on the orchestra level and in boxes on each side; the stage curtain is decorated with Zodiac symbols; a lyre is pictured on the ceiling above the auditorium. The lower of the two images in this work shows the empty front boxes and gallery as they would be seen from the stage; the lyre in the ceiling decoration is visible. This illustration was published in Robert Wilkinson's "Londina Illustrata," vol. 2.
