This print presents the figure of David Garrick possibly declaiming lines from near the end of his lengthy ode to Shakespeare. He stands, with his left hand over his heart and his right hand gesturing upward, beside a tall monument topped by Roubiliac's statue of Shakespeare. In the background are architectural details, and figures and symbols from various Shakespearean plays and poetry, including one person playing a long herald trumpet. In the margin of the work are a salutation "to Mrs. Montagu" and lines from Garrick's "An ode upon dedicating a building, and erecting a statue, to Shakespeare, at Stratford upon Avon. By D.G:"
