Description

Musicians can be seen in the lower right corner of this painting: one clapping, one holding a tanpura (tambura).
Commentary from the museum website:
The elegantly clad and bejeweled women seated at the center of this painting, and their equally fashionable attendants, are enjoying an evening of music and camaraderie. Both of the women hold flowers, which they present to one another, and the flask and betel-nut containers placed before them suggest that the evening will also include rose water and other luxuries.
