Description

Scene in a dance studio with four ballerinas working at the barre and along the wall, three pausing on a bench, and one standing with a fan; a thin column occupies a position near the center of the painting. It recalls the larger column in Degas' "La répétition au foyer de la danse" at the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC (RIdIM item 6105). This painting is also similar to "Before the ballet" at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC (RIdIM item 6103).
