This portrait of Mrs. Carpenter (maiden name Lucinda Warren Goddard) presents her fashionably dressed, holding a drawstring purse in her right hand and a key-like device in her left, as she stands beside a table where a box (perhaps a music box?) and open music book can be seen. Commentary from museum website: Folk art portrait. Lucinda Warren Goddard, Boston, 1811- 1895, wife of man in no. 1117. Painted the year of her marriage, 1833. Full-length, head profile to right, standing by low table on which is an open box, music and drapery. Wearing a high comb, earrings, cross on chain, full-sleeved dress and gloves, and carrying reticule.
