Description

The pastoral scene at the upper center of the obverse side of this fan includes and adult woman, seated and playing a lute.
Additional information from description on the museum website: Three single skin leaves mounted concentrically. Obverse: fifteen medallions of pastoral scenes, seascapes, black and gold borders; flowers, butterflies, chinoiserie scenes between; narrow gilt edging. Reverse: simple pastoral and chinoiserie scenes, flowers, fruit and birds. Twenty-two carved and pierced ivory sticks decorated with painted chinoiserie figures, flowers and butterflies. Mother-of-pearl washer on brassrivet.
