Description

From the Národní galerie Praha website: Brožík found his inspiration for this impressive historizing genre in Ludwig Uhland's The singer's curse. The ballad describes two minnesingers, father and son, who stop at a nobleman's castle. The beautiful lady of the castle falls in love with the young singer and his songs - and her jealous husband has him murdered. The unfortunate father of the young singer puts a curse on all of them. Brožík shows the moment of the first signs of sympathy between the young minnesinger and the noble lady, the obvious disapproval of the onlooking husband and the deep anxiety of the singer's father foreseeing tragic consequences.
