Description
From the Národní galerie Praha website: Ushiwaka or Ushiwakamaru is the youth name of the Minamoto family warrior Yoshitsune, who was known for his refinement, beauty, generosity and adroitness in arms and remains the ideal of a young man today. Besides Yoshitsune and his robust adversary and later vassal Benkei, this dance-drama Benkei on the Bridge (Hashi Benkei) also features the equerry Kisanta. The print bears the date stamp, the censor’s seal aratame (revised) and the seal Kinkyū, i.e. the seal of the publisher Kyūjirō from the Ōmiya publishing house. (See Helena Honcoopová, Kunisada, Praha 2005, p. 208)
