Description

Modeled by Johann Joachim Kändler, and manufactured by Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, this sculpture presents a group of three gracefully draped wingless cherubs or putti on a base that includes leaves, flowers, numerous C-shaped marks, and what appears to be a broken Corinthian capital; one cherub sits holding a lute in playing position; another stands (possibly singing) with his left foot on the ground, his right foot on the edge of a cylindrical column, his left hand holding a music book (some notation visible) and his right arm extended upward; the third one kneels, straddling the column and holding a rolled document in its left hand.
