Description

From the Národní galerie Praha web site: While the renowned Frans Hals devoted himself to portraits in Haarlem, his younger brother painted the merry Haarlem patricians. In a luxurious interior decorated with paintings, ladies and gentleman are getting ready for a banquet. Bright-coloured fashionable costumes, ladies´ lace and elegant gentlemen´s hats describe the luxury environment. Musicians contribute to the pleasant amusements. The painting not only recorded luxury and wealth of the assembled company, but it was also a memento of the risks of unrestrained life.
