Description

Smart was in the Chapel Royal under George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria, and conductor at many provincial music festivals featuring the work of Handel. He conducted the first English performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 1826. Smart is holding the music of one of his popular four-voice glees.
