Pan, from Divine Mythology
Description
Pan is seated in right profile on a plinth next to a wall while gazing up into the sky over his left shoulder. He is resting his left forearm on his right knee and holding pan pipes in his left hand. His right hand placed to the right behind him supports his weight. His ears point back, and his head is covered with short hair whose forelocks curl upward. He has a beard, mustache, and a powerfully muscled torso. His thighs are covered with long, shaggy hair, ending in thin legs with hooves. Small plants are growing out of cracks and from the top of the wall behind him, and large cumulus clouds fill the sky. The plinth has the initials "ALPI" in the upper left corner and Fialetti's monogram in the lower left below it. Handwritten on the plinth in black ink: " on the backside of this print was wrote / Gio. Anto. Regillo Pordedone a Bardentone o Licinio. Scuola Veneziano. / A E. P. [illegible]" The scene fits in a rectangular border.
