Item type:drawingDate of creation:ca. 1895Technique / Medium:pencil heightened with whitePlace of creation:BelgiëDescription
A nude woman is seated on a chair with a large lyre resting on her knees. The nine strings of the lyre extend from the frame of the lyre straight up into the sky past the top of the drawing. She is shown in left profile with her arms stretched high above her head grasping one of the arms of the lyre. The back of her chair is straight and then curves to the right in a semi-circle ending in a circle behind her head which looks like the sun with rays of light projecting from it. Her head is crowned with a laurel wreath. The chair sits on top of a pedestal covered with eight human heads, and her feet are resting on top of one of the heads. From the right-hand side of the drawing, two disembodied arms come out of the wind to pluck the strings of the lyre. Plants in the background are blown by the wind. The artist's initials are on the pedestal.
