Description
This is a scene from the orchestra pit of an opera performance showing the percussion section. A man is reading music from a music stand while seated holding a triangle suspended from his left hand. The triangle beater is in his right hand which is resting on his right leg. To his left, there are two large timpani, and the timpanist is partially visible behind them. Two musicians are partially visible in front of the percussion. Three levels of box seats can be seen in the background and are completely filled with people. Both percussionists have beards and are wearing evening dress. Their shirts are open at the collar without any tie. The title is handwritten and initialed by the artist in the lower left border.
