This artist's rendering shows the interior of the Teatro la Fenice in Venice looking toward the stage where an opera performance is in progress. There are two men and two women on the stage in 18th-century costumes. The stage scenery is a large sitting room in an aristocratic house or mansion. Footlights are visible along the edge of the stage with the orchestra in the pit. The audience is seated on benches on the main floor of the theater and in the boxes on both sides. Nearly every seat is occupied. The interior of the theater is ornately decorated with paintings on the ceiling and a large chandelier using candles for illumination is hanging from the ceiling.
