Description
In this caricature, four musicians in an orchestra pit are shown sleeping or yawning. The conductor is shown from the back slumped over with his head resting on his chest fast asleep. Two of the three musicians in front of him are asleep in the same position with their backs to the viewer. The musician in the center is turned sideways facing the viewer. His face is contorted in a wide-mouthed yawn. Pages of music appear on the stands of each of the musicians. A timpani drum with a timpani stick on the drumhead is partially shown in the right-hand corner. The bottom half of two actors in ancient classical clothing, a woman and a man, appear above the conductor on the stage. There is a title above the illustration and a caption below it. The number 387 appears on the drumhead.
