Description

The tenor, Giovanni Battista Rubini, appears in operatic costume staring intently at the viewer. He has a small mustache, shaved in the middle, above his downward curved mouth with thin lips. His face is framed in a mutton chops beard, and his hair protrudes in waves from under the left side of his hat, which has a large, curved plume coming out of the middle of it. He is wearing a tunic fastened by a belt, a ruffled collar, and large, pleated sleeves. A cloak covers his left shoulder and side, and a sword is visible beneath the cloak. He is wearing hose on his thin, spindly legs. The series title and name of the journal are at the top, and a poetic caption and the name and address of the printer are at the bottom.

The caption consists of a poem. Musical notes substitute for some of the words of the poem. It is possible that solfege syllables corresponding to the musical notes can be used to create words to complete the poem.
