Reveling of the Guard in the Versailles Opera Room, the 1st of October, 1789
Description
The stage of the Versailles Opera is a festive scene of a huge banquet of the French Guard. The tables are set up in a large U shape extending the full length of the stage with eleven ornate chandeliers hanging from the arched ceiling. The stage background is painted with a forest. Most of the soldiers are standing in front of their chairs at the table raising their glasses as if in a toast. Some of the soldiers are seated, and some have raised sabers. A small table with five soldiers is in the front possibly used for serving. The pit below the stage is also filled with soldiers, many raising their glasses in a toast. Some of the soldiers are playing musical instruments including a large drum, two natural trumpets, and two horns.
