The music lesson

Description

A woman is playing a double-necked lute while seated at a table reading from a music book propped on a reading stand. The table is draped with a cloth with many folds. A cello is lying on the table behind the music stand with the bow lying on top of the cello. A wooden box is at the bottom of the table. A man stands behind the woman and table looking down at her playing with his hand outstretched above the music with his fingers extended. The woman seen from her right profile is wearing a long silk or satin dress covered by a waist-length velvet jacket trimmed in white fur. Her face is framed by curls of hair with curls from the back of her head falling down along her neck. A ribbon tied in a bow fastens the braids of hair at the back of her head. The man with a mustache is dressed in a black coat and hat with a white scarf at his neck and ruffled cuffs. The scene is in a bedroom chamber. The bed with a canopy is in the background at the left, and the door to the room is open on the right.
