In the foreground, a portly male figure is being lifted on a large chair, by two men. Other male figures surround him, carrying sticks. To the left, a pig and piglets are shown running across a bridge. In the background is what appears to be a mob, carrying sticks. In the right foreground, a bearded male figure holds a violin, and appears to be playing it, and possibly dancing.

Sold by the artist to the actor David Garrick; Soane purchased the four paintings that comprise the Election series from the sale of the effects of Mrs Garrick at Christie's 1823.
