Description
A water sprite plays a violin.
The artist created several versions throughout the 1880s. The motif had a particular poignancy for the artist while living abroad, as the legend of the water sprite was widely popular in Sweden, where Josephson was born. In addition, the artist even wrote a poem entitled "The Water Sprite" (Necken), in which he cast himself in the role of the water sprite.
