Description

This painting was commissioned by Régent Philippe d'Orléans for the Château de la Muette, occupied by his daughter, the Duchesse du Berry, and situated near the Bois de Boulogne. It represents the five senses and depicts a peacock, dog, monkey, and various birds along with fruit, flowers and several musical instruments (viola da gamba, two violins and lute). One of the violins is being bowed by the monkey.
