Description
From the NICE Paintings - National Inventory of Continental European Paintings database: In 1864 Federigo Andreotti (1847-1930) received an important commission from the King which brought him fame not only in Italy, but also in Great Britain and the United States where his genre paintings, representing daily life scenes from the 17th and 18th century, became very popular. Andreotti started his training at a very young age with Angiolo Tricca. In 1862 he entered the Florence Academy where he studied under Pollastrini and Ussi. The First Fiddle, depicting a violin teacher demonstrating how to hold the instrument , the music on the stand bearing the title 'Lezione V', Lesson 5, is a typical example of his genre pieces.
