Description
Organ pipes are visible through an archway on the left. From the Frans Hals Museum website: The interior, from the west. The window tells the story of Haarlem’s coat of arms. After the Egyptian city of Damietta had fallen to the Crusaders in 1219, the sword of Frederick Barbarossa, the German Emperor, and a cross of the Patriarch of Jerusalem were offered to Haarlem in thanks. The sword and the cross were added to the Haarlem coat of arms. The stained glass window was removed in 1738 when Christian Müller’s organ was put in place.
