Description

The so-called 'Guidonian hand' may have been adopted by Guido d'Arezzo as an aid to training singers in solmization. Although the hand occurs in pre-Guidonian manuscripts as a method of finding the semitones of tetrachords, it does not take its well-known form showing the solmization syllables until the 12th century.
