Description

The Hatch family is seated in the library of their home in New York, at 49 Park Avenue, at the northeast corner of 37th Street. Alfrederick Smith Hatch (1829-1904) seated at the right at a desk, and his wife, the former Theodosia Ruggles (1829-1908) leaning on the mantle-piece; her mother, Mrs. John Gould Ruggles (1809-1891) knitting at the left at the central table; behind her, Hatch's father, Dr. Horace Hatch (1788-1873) reading newspaper; the remaining persons are Alfrederick Hatch's children; one of Hatch's children, Edward Payson II, is carrying a toy trumpet on a strap.
