Description
The dancer Carmencita, perhaps depicted in one of the roles that made her famous. She is dressed in an elaborate gold-trimmed costume with flowers in her hair. A bouquet of flowers is at the front of the stage, along with a golden-coloured bangle as though they have been thrown onto the stage. Carmencita, also known as "The Pearl of Seville" appeared on stage for the first time at the Cervantes Theatre in 1880. Her dancing of the Petenera and the Vitto made her famous. After some appearances in Paris, she signed a contract with the American agent Bolessy Kiralfy, agreeing to appear in the USA where she made her debut at Niblo's Garden.
