Description

An oil painting by Rex Whistler of the family in the Music Room. A door opens into the large room where individuals can be seen variously reading, painting and taking place in a musical performance, with Lady Caroline (1913-1976) in the doorway, the future 7th Marquess, Henry (b. 1922), painting his father Charles, Lady Rose (b. 1919) reading, Lady Katharine (b. 1922) and Lady Mary (b. 1918) with Marjorie, the 6th Marchioness (1883-1946) at the piano, and Charles, the 6th Marquess (1885-1947) seated in an easy chair. What appears to be a tapestry on the far wall in the background includes depictions of musicians playing trumpets and tambourine.
