Relief in the base of the triptych.
Description
The relief has at least fifteen figures grouped in various ways round the Infant Jesus, who is lying in a crib with a halo of rays round his head. Two angels hover on the right-hand side of the Virgin Mary. One holds a violin-like instrument. The other angel, between Mary and the first angel, is playing a transverse flute which he holds pointing to his left and with his right hand uppermost. Beside the ox, on the right hand side of the relief, there is a shepherd with a bagpipe under his arm. On the extreme right-hand edge of the relief a shepherd is dancing.

Instruments [MIMO Code] (notes)
Violin [3573] (with clearly marked waist as well as projections of the upper and lower bouts and with rather straight shoulders; there is a border or stripe round the belly which closely follows the contour of the instrument; it has a tailpiece and a relatively long, broad neck ending in a sickle-shaped pegbox; the tuning pegs can barely be discerned and it is difficult to determine the number of strings but there appear to be six to eight or more; the instrument is played with a short, arched bow held in his left hand.)
Transverse flute [4093]
Bagpipe [3746] (In addition to the blowpipe, it has a cylindrical chanter with a conical opening and two or three barely distinguishable finger-holes; a detail just to the right of the blowpipe might be all that is left of one or two drones.)

Notes
The relief is of unknown origin, but is probably not Swedish and was presumably included in the triptych by Nils Meunier of Stockholm, the master who made it in the eighteenth century.
