Description

This street mural in the Mouraria neighborhood of Lisbon is full of images connected to fado, a popular song style with 19th century roots in urban social contexts of marginality and melancholy. We see the traditional ensemble of Portuguese guitar, acoustic guitar and singer; famous fado singers Maria Severa and Fernando Maurício; and references to popular songs such as "Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa". Other parts of the mural represent the city and the neighborhood, such as houses, people, food (wine and bread) and popular decorations of the saints' festivities (St. Antony, St. John and St. Peter).
