Description
One man holding a viol, one man holding an ivory flute, and three other men. Two open books of music are on the table. According to some sources, this is a group portrait of Michel de La Barre (standing), Marin Marais, Antoine Fourqueray, Jean Hotteterre and Jacques Hotteterre. Some scholars believe the subjects of the painting are other persons, but the National Gallery description supports the La Barre identification.
