Notes
"Frescobaldi was depicted by Claude Mellan, a French artist and engraver active in Rome in 1624–37, in a black chalk drawing which seems to be the source of subsequent engravings: a rather crude representation by Jean Saillant, engraved by Christianus Sas, in the second book of Toccate, and Mellan's own engraving. Both of these have inscriptions which give the subject's age as 36, which would date them implausibly eight years before Mellan's arrival in Rome." -- Grove Music Online, s.v., "Frescobaldi, Girolamo Alessandro" by Frederick Hammond and Alexander Silbiger.
